Mr. Keith Karbel has been an Army ROTC Recruiting Operations Officer since 2007 (2007-2013
as contractor, 2013-present as GS-11). He is an Army ROTC graduate of Penn State University
and a retired Army officer with over 22 years of service between the active and reserve
components in both command and staff positions. Mr. Karbel handles recruiting and
enrollments for the Dauntless Battalion, hosted by Widener University, with partnerships
at Villanova University, West Chester University, Penn State-Abington, Penn State-Brandywine,
Neumann, and Immaculata Universities, and Bryn Mawr College. Keith also serves on
Widener’s Committee on Veterans and Military Education, has facilitated LEADERworks
workshops for Widener’s Oskin Leadership Institute and previously served as a member
on Widener’s School of Nursing Community Advisory Board.
Beyond current recruiting and enrollment duties, Keith’s extensive experience with
ROTC and the Dauntless Battalion goes back to 1996, making him one of the most knowledgeable
among U.S. Army Cadet Command cadre. He’s been the unit’s Operations and Training
Officer, Executive Officer, and Villanova Company Officer-In-Charge; Military Science
Level I, II, and III instructor (and even pinch hit as MSL IV instructor); Ranger
Challenge coach; and served as Platoon Tactical Officer, Company Evaluation Officer,
Company Tactical Officer, and Tactics Trainer/Evaluator at Advanced Camp; and Leadership
Instructor at Basic Camp, receiving accolades for his performance beyond what was
expected. Keith was selected as U.S. Army Cadet Command’s Recruiting Operations Officer
of the Year in 2016, and received the Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service
Award.
Keith earned a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Widener University
in 2000, and a Bachelor of Science in Management from Penn State University in 1986.
Keith and his wife Nicole are residents of the Brandywine Hundred of Wilmington, DE
and have two grown daughters, Courtney and Fiona.
