LECOM School of Osteopathic Medicine

 

Option 1 for high school seniors:

Time of Application

  • Senior in high school.

Standards of the Program

  • Minimum total SAT score (critical reading and math) of 1250.
    High school GPA of 3.50 or better.
  • Admission to WCU Pre-Medical Program - includes submission of a WCU admissions application, personal statement, transcript(s), SAT scores.

Program Timetable

  • Notify WCU Pre-Medical program of intent to apply for LECOM Early Acceptance Program.
  • Interview with LECOM prior to matriculation at WCU.

Option 2 for WCU Students

Time of Application

  • Upon matriculation as a freshman at WCU through beginning of sophomore year.

Standards of the Program

  • See option 1 standards
  • An overall GPA at WCU of 3.40 or better.
  • An overall science course GPA at WCU of 3.20 or better.

Program Timetable

  • Notify WCU Pre-Medical program of intent to apply for LECOM Early Acceptance Program up to fall of sophomore year.
  • Documented health care experience is not required, but highly recommended
  • Interview with WCU Pre-Medical Committee in fall of sophomore year.
  • Interview with LECOM within first two years of Early Acceptance Program.

 

Criteria for Continued Participation in Program

  • File an AACOMAS application and LECOM supplemental application by January 31st of senior year at WCU.
  • Submit D.O. Letter of recommendation to LECOM by February 28th of senior year.
  • Admission to LECOM upon completion of senior year at WCU.

Early Matriculation into LECOM Program

  • For students who complete their graduation requirements 1 year earlier than expected and want to matriculate at LECOM a year prior to the date on their Provisional Letter of Acceptance 
  • Earlier matriculation is only considered if the request is submitted in writing to the EAP office of Admission in Erie by January 1 of the year one year prior to the year of the original LECOM matriculation year given in the Provisional Letter of Acceptance
  • Example:  Original matriculation year is 2025; request must be received by January 1, 2024

Dental 

LECOM School of Dental Medicine

  • Program is only available in Bradenton, FL.
  • Student must have their provisional letter of acceptance in the EAP before starting their third year at WCU.
  • Upon submitting an AADSAS application, completing four years of undergraduate study, taking the DAT and successfully meeting certain GPA and other requirements, the student enters LECOM’s School of Dental Medicine the following July.
  • Graduates receive a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree.
    Standards of the Program

 

Option 1: High School Senior

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • A High School GPA of 3.50 or higher
  • SAT Score (Math and Verbal Reasoning) greater than or equal to 1170 on a single exam taken before 3/1/16, a SAT score of 1240 or higher on a single exam taken after 3/1/16 or an ACT Composite score greater than or equal to 26 on a single exam
  • Admission to WCU Pre-Medical Program - includes submission of a WCU admissions application, personal statement, transcript(s), SAT scores.

Option 2: WCU Students

  • (see Option 1 standards)
  • Must not hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Must have at least two years remaining as a full time student at WCU
  • An overall GPA of 3.4 or higher at WCU
  • A science GPA of 3.2 or higher at WCU
  • Admission to WCU Pre-Medical Program - includes submission of a WCU admissions application, personal statement, transcript(s), SAT scores.

Course Requirements

  • Biology: A minimum of eight (8) semester hours, including two semester hours of laboratory work.
  • Inorganic/general chemistry: A minimum of eight (8) semester hours, including two semester hours of laboratory work.
  • Organic chemistry: A minimum of eight (8) semester hours, including two semester hours of laboratory work.
  • Biochemistry: A minimum of three (3) semester hours.
  • English: A minimum of six (6) semester hours of composition with emphasis on technical language skills.
