Anthropology Faculty

Featured Faculty: Dr. Heather Wholey

Dr. Heather Wholey often teaches archaeology and archaeological methods through community engagement work that gives students practical, hands-on experience while providing a service to the community.  Following strict COVID health and safety protocol, Wholey and students are currently conducting a geophysical survey at the historic Pigeon Run Presbyterian Cemetery in Bear, Delaware. They are using ground penetrating radar and analytical software to detect, map, and model below ground irregularities that they believe are indicators of unmarked graves.  The work will be used by the Friends of Pigeon Run Cemetery when planning burial ground improvements, such as walkways and landscaping, so that they may avoid locations of suspected graves.
