Members of the Sykes Union and Student Activities (SUSA) team recently won international recognition from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) at that professional association's annual conference.

The West Chester University (WCU) Center for STEM Inclusion (CSI) is collaborating with Deloitte's Smart Factory Believers program and Heights Philadelphia to empower Pennsylvania's K-12 students to boldly pursue fields in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

West Chester University's Department of Theatre & Dance proudly presents a high-energy, rock concert interpretation of RENT, the iconic rock opera by Jonathan Larson, from April 3-6, 2025. Directed and choreographed by Associate Professor Liz Staruch, this reimagining blends live music, multimedia elements, and a contemporary perspective, channeling the musical's raw energy. Performances will run Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m., in the MainStage Theatre at the E.O. Bull Center for the Arts, 2 E. While tickets for RENT are now SOLD OUT, members of the public continue to be invited to submit the names of HIV/AIDS patients, members of the LGBTQ+ community who have experienced discrimination, as well as others for a special tribute that will be made during the production.

News stations highlighted the historic inauguration of Dr. Laurie Bernotsky as the 16th president of West Chester University.

West Chester University is proud to announce the launch of its new Sports Media Production Certificate, designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on experience and essential skills for careers in sports media and sports broadcasting. This 12-credit certificate program will officially begin in Fall 2025 and is open to students of all majors who wish to enhance their expertise in sports media production.

This year, 57 West Chester University students have been recognized with the 1871 Awards. Established in 2018, the 1871 Award represents the year in which West Chester University was founded. The awards were presented at a ceremony on March 20.

Volcanoes are responsible for building more than 80 percent of the Earth's surface, and a subject of fascination and research for Dr. Terry Plank, who has studied them in Alaska, Italy, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Iceland, and at sea. She will deliver West Chester University's Second Annual Mather Scholar Lecture on Wednesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. in the Sciences & Engineering Center and The Commons (SECC) Room 108. The program is free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, March 25, West Chester University will honor the achievements and history of William Chester Ruth (1882-1971), an African American inventor, entrepreneur, and minister from Chester County who built and sold his patented farm equipment and other machinery throughout the United States.

Fifteen students from West Chester University recently returned from an intensive nine-day study abroad program in Europe, where they explored transatlantic relations, engaged with European peers, and gained firsthand experience in international institutions.

The Pennsylvania Theatre Institute summer camp at West Chester University (WCU) returns for the 8th summer with multiple sessions for students aged 8-14, and a separate session for high school-aged students. In front of a crowd of more than 1,600 during Wednesday's West Chester Univ. vs. East Stroudsburg Univ. men's basketball game, the West Chester University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) resumed its unique Golden Rams Division II tradition --- granting a wish to a deserving child in partnership with the Make A Wish Foundation.

On Thursday, February 27, journalist and historian Michael Wolraich, author of The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age, will make a guest appearance at West Chester University. On Friday, February 28, WCU's Office of Sustainability (OoS) welcomes WCU staff to the Brandywine Project, an interactive opportunity to expand understanding of environmental, social, and economic sustainability on the WCU campus. WCU students recently volunteered alongside Stroud Water Research Center scientists to collect and test water samples from area streams to determine the concentration of road salt making its way to local freshwater ecosystems.

West Chester University student Gabby Kopczynskie was crowned Miss West Chester University (WCU) during the 26th live competition held on Saturday, February 1, in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on the University's campus. Kopczynskie is an early childhood education major with a special education minor from Freeland, PA.

FOX's Good Day Philadelphia featured members of West Chester University's Golden Rams football team during an Eagles pep rally, celebrating the city's excitement for the NFC Championship game. During December's commencement ceremonies, three WCU College of Arts and Humanities faculty were recognized for their excellence in the classroom and beyond.

Composer-arranger-saxophonist Jonathan Ragonese, professor and director of jazz studies in the University's Wells School of Music, was honored with the E. Riley Holman Memorial Faculty Award at December's commencement ceremonies.

West Chester University will host special events across several days honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., whose federal holiday is January 20 this year. So that the entire campus community can participate, this year's events will take place January 22 through January 29.

WCU's Wells School of Music student Alyssa Gabrilovich '28 - a first-year student studying Piano Performance - was one of only 23 students invited to recently compete in the prestigious 11th National Chopin Piano Competition from January 4 - 12, 2025, in Miami, Florida. The competition was held at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.

From January 21 - March 30, 2025, West Chester University will exhibit Cheryl Harper's Passages: An Installation in Progress (Passages) in the John H. Baker Gallery, E.O.
