Joint Actuarial Career Day for Arcadia and West Chester University Students
Arcadia and West Chester University sponsored the first annual Actuarial Career Day on September 15, 2017. This year, the event was held at Arcadia University. Nine Actuarial Firms attended and over 30 students (Actuarial and Math Majors) were interviewed at the event. The companies then stayed for the afternoon and made themselves available to network with all interested students. Students interviewed for both full-time and internship positions. The firms were very happy with the quality and substance of the students interviewed. Many companies indicated that they will be asking some of the interviewees to interview at the company headquarters. All the companies expressed a strong desire to participate in this event in 2018.
Arcadia and West Chester University are proud of their students for their professionalism and high achievements. We are very hopeful that a number of students will be called back for the second round of interviews that will ultimately lead to offers of work at the organizations.
Companies participating in the event included: AON/Hewitt Consulting (Pension and Health); Long Term Care Group; Willis Towers Watson (Pension Administration); Willis Towers Watson (Actuarial Valuation Services); Transamerica Corporation; Lincoln Financial Group; Voya Financial; Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company; and The McKeogh Company.
Here is what some of the students had to say about the event:
“The job fair was great. It gave us valuable interview experience and an outlet to talk to employers in the field on our own terms. We could ask questions freely outside the normal classroom setting and network with potential future employers.”
“Speaking with professionals and interns at the job fair helped me see where an actuarial science degree could take me in both the short term and the long term. The job fair helped me discover the various opportunities available to me with such a degree.”
“The job fair was a great networking experience. I loved getting to meet the different companies and learn some of the opportunities available to students interested in joining the actuarial science field.”
