Sarah Gulish is a Grammy-nominated music educator with a Ph.D. in music education from Temple University. For sixteen years, Sarah worked as a public school music teacher in Montgomery County, PA. She also has served as an Adjunct Professor of Music Education at Buffalo State University, Temple University, and West Chester University. Her teaching centers on creativity and improvisation in courses focused on new music learners. Sarah is an active researcher, writer, presenter, and clinician at the state, national, and international levels. She has served as the United States representative for the International Society of Music Education’s Popular Music Special Interest Group. She is a past member of the National Association for Music Education’s IN-ovations Council and NAfME’s Council for Orchestral Education. She also regularly tours and records as a rock musician with various groups.
Sarah's experience as a musician and educator and is detailed in her book, Creativity in the Classroom: An Innovative Approach to Integrate Arts Education. Sarah works to provide authentic learning and performing experiences for adolescents both in and out of the classroom. In 2019, Sarah co-founded F-flat Books, a music publishing company focused on practical and equitable resources for musicians and music educators. She currently serves as CEO for F-flat Books and writes and publishes curricula centered on informal learning, creativity, popular music pedagogy, and student autonomy. Her work has been published by Oxford University Press, Routledge, Bloosmbury, and Sense Publishers. She is a regular contributor to editorials in music education, including inTune Magazine, Teaching Music Magazine, and School Band and Orchestra Magazine.
