Library - Cataloging Unit
The Library's Cataloging Unit does original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, and standard copy cataloging and processing of materials of every kind in order to make those materials accessible to West Chester University students, faculty, and staff. Material is added to WorldCat, a huge bibliographic database, that exposes our materials to libraries and library patrons all over the world. The unit also works with the Library's digitized collections in order to make them accessible on the Web.

- Learning Outcomes:
- Our student workers have come from varied backgrounds and have majored in many different areas. So while working in our unit does not directly prepare students to become professionals in their desired fields, it does support study skills, critical thinking, and computer skills. Our work requires considerable attention to detail. Developing that skill helps students in any field. It also requires students to actively think about the assigned task, ask questions as needed, seek feedback, and revise workâthese are also important skills in academic and professional life. Our work exposes students not only to materials in the field that they will study, as the Library purchases material to support every program on campus, but also to culturally diverse materials, including materials in many languages.
