Library - Instructional Media Center

The Instructional Media Center (IMC) provides students with materials which might be used by elementary and secondary school teachers including K-12 textbooks, curriculum guides and supplemental texts, and book and classroom activity kits. The IMC also houses a collection of audio-visual materials and equipment, circulates laptops for student use in the library, and offers some production services such as comb binding, lamination and poster printing.

Position Responsibilities:
Audiovisual, Customer Relations, Customer Service, Data Input, Digital Media Technology, General Office, Library
Involves the following:
• Confidential or sensitive data/information
• Handling financial, student or personnel data/records
This position will provide general assistance with:
Student Workers in the Library IMC provide service at the IMC Help Desk. Duties include: •Charging and discharging materials using the library automated system. •Searching the Library catalog to verify availability of requested material. •Answering general locational and directional questions. •Answering telephone inquires. •Referring patrons to other departments as needed. •Taking requests for services and performing production work. •Straightening bookshelves, shelving library materials, and shelf reading. •Completion of physical processing and labeling of new library materials. •Checking returned equipment for damage. •Performing light clerical tasks such as filing and data entry. •Other duties as requested including occasional support for other library departments.
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
Students must be willing to learn about laptops and A/V equipment if they are not already familiar. Need to be comfortable with periods of high volume customer service. GENERAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES DESIRED: Strong work ethic. Reliability is a must. Friendly. Great customer service attitude. Strong communication skills. Personable telephone and face to face manner. Computer comfort, knowledge and skills with Microsoft word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint is helpful. Ability to work with basic office equipment. Enthusiastic and positive attitude. Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail. Be mature. Attentive listener. Ability to complete goals and task assigned. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Open to suggestions and growth.
Learning Outcomes:
Student workers learn many transferable skills and are introduced to a non-traditional office environment. They learn a lot about the resources available to them at the Library and this can improve their scholarship. Also, we have provided recommendations for deserving Student Workers for jobs after graduation.
