Professor Benjamin is a proud Golden Ram. She earned both her B.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and her M.Ed. in Reading from West Chester University. Professor Benjamin began her career as a HeadStart teacher with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit. She proudly served as a kindergarten teacher and then a first grade teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. During her tenure as a public school teacher, Professor Benjamin also served as an adjunct professor teaching courses in the Literacy department at WCU. Professor Benjamin now joins the Literacy department as a full-time instructor while pursuing her doctorate and becoming a three-time WCU alumna. Her research interests include teacher education, phonics instruction, and elementary reading literacy.
