The B.S. in Business Management provides students with the skills necessary to manage organizations effectively. Students will acquire business knowledge and learn to think critically, solve problems analytically and communicate effectively. In addition, they will develop an ethical mindset and a global perspective on business. The breadth and depth of management makes it an ideal degree choice for furthering careers in a variety of organization types, including small businesses, large corporations, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies.

The human resource (HR) function is widely considered a strategic component of the organization. Earning your B.S. in Management - HR Concentration will provide you the tools you need to thrive in this exciting environment. Human resource professionals are employed in large and small organizations and in every industry. Examples of human resource responsibilities include HR planning, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training and development, onboarding, payroll, managing benefits, and navigating employment law. In smaller organizations, HR professionals may be responsible for many functions, while in larger organizations, HR employees may play a more specialized role.

The B.S. in Business Management: Business Processes and Data Analytics Concentration, based on the SAP curriculum, provides students with business processes and data sciences concepts and SAP system access that will enrich their academic understanding of data analytics' roles in improvement of business processes. Students also receive the SAP Student Recognition Award certificate (see below) in addition to earning a B.S. in Business Management - Business Processes and Data Analytics Concentration.

Reflecting the growing globalization of commerce and the expansion in opportunities for international careers, the Department of Management offers a Bachelor of Science in International Business.

The B.S. in International Business is grounded in the School of Business, but draws from a range of disciplines across the university. The program's design enables students to gain the knowledge, skills and experience needed to understand and make international business in a cross- and multi-cultural context. The program encourages and facilitates the completion of an international education experience (i.e. "study abroad"), a complementary minor, and/or a foreign language proficiency.

The Supply Chain Management (SCM) program will teach students how to improve productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness through the innovative operational and supply chain processes. WCU graduates with a degree in supply chain management can find employment in a wide range of career paths in the SCM fields such as project manager, demand planner, production planner, distribution or operations manager, purchaser, customer relationship specialist, supply chain analyst, or process improvement coach.

The minor in Business Analytics is an interdisciplinary minor designed to fill the gap between business functions and analytical insights. With its ubiquitous application in business processes, business analytical skills are highly sought after. Answering this strong market demand, this minor will equip business students with analytical literacy and an ethical mindset. Specifically, students will learn database management, data programming, and data visualization skills that can be applied in daily business practice.

Managers who fail to grasp this reality run the risk of incurring liability for their organization. The 18-credit Minor in Entrepreneurship introduces students to the theory and practice of entrepreneurship. This minor is designed for students from all WCU majors who want to start a business now or in the future, work in a startup or small business, or learn about entrepreneurship. The minor blends the theory and practice of entrepreneurship. Courses address creativity and idea generation, ethics, social entrepreneurship, lean startup principles, feasibility, business models, business plans, market research, financing, intellectual property, and many other entrepreneurship concepts and practices. Students develop an idea for a business, test its feasibility, write a business plan, and present it. Students experience entrepreneurship first-hand through a 3- or 6-credit internship with a small or startup organization.

Human resource management plays a vital role in the life of all organizations and the field has evolved such that human resource professionals are now viewed as strategic business partners who assist senior managers in key areas of organizational leadership. The 18-credit blended Minor in Human Resource Management will introduce students to the core competencies of the field including employment law, staffing and development, and compensation. In addition, students will gain key insights about organizational behavior and a marketable skillset that transcends disciplines.

Reflecting the growing globalization of commerce and the expansion in opportunities for international careers, the Department of Management offers a Minor in International Business.

Students are allowed to choose electives from a variety of related courses in areas such as anthropology, literature, economics and finance, geography, history, and political science. Students can also select approved courses "culture cluster" courses offered by the Department of Foreign Languages.

Depending on the interests of the student, it might be appropriate to select a body of courses for the minor that pertain to a particular country or region of the world. This approach would allow a degree of specialization regarding that country or that geographic region. As one example, students who select courses related to the Spanish language might also take elective courses related to Spain or to Latin America.

The Minor in Supply Chain Management provides students with basic knowledge of supply chain management, such as procurement, operations management, quality management, information technology, project management, and logistics, while helping them to experience the global aspects of supply chain through a 10-day study abroad elective. This minor will enable students to possess the tools and skillset applicable to the marketplace through interacting with local and national supply chain-related companies/organizations such as Teva, Siemens, APICS, PMI, and SAP. Given the cross-functional nature of the supply chain, the supply chain management minor courses will be a strong complement to all business majors.

What you need to know: SAP course  

As a member of the SAP University Alliances program, West Chester University's School of Business' Department of Management began offering SAP-integrated courses in the Fall 2020. SAP is the global leader in enterprise application software, with 440,000 customers in more than 180 countries.

Students who complete three of the SAP-integrated courses with a grade of “C” or better are eligible to receive the SAP Student Recognition Award certificate. Please note that students who plan to take any of these courses specifically to obtain this certificate must check with the instructor to ensure the required SAP content will be covered that semester. Very likely, students can graduate with a Minor in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and SAP Certificate since most SAP courses will be based on the SCM minor courses.
