TOPIC: AUSTRIA WITHIN EUROPE: In Cultural History and Today/From the Habsburg Empire to the European Union
DESCRIPTION
This conference is dedicated to the scholarly examination of historical, political, literary, and cinematic approaches to examining Austria’s place within Europe.
The period focus of the conference stretches from the Renaissance Habsburg Empire to the present-day Second Republic of Austria within the European Union. Paper proposals may also examine Austria in conjunction with other European countries and especially former territories of the historic Habsburg Empire. Presentations that examine Austria within Europe through life-stories, multilingualism, migration, LGBTQ+ identity, and notions of home are especially welcome. Proposals/Panels on the pedagogy of teaching Austrian Studies are also encouraged.
The primary conference languages are English, and German.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION Due: March 8, 2024
Conference registration includes: Reception on April 11; Lunch and Dinner on April 12; Lunch and a Reception on April 13; Coffee and Tea throughout the conference; and chartered bus transportation to the University of Pennsylvania on April 13 and back to West Chester.

- Every conference room has a projector, BUT you have to bring your own laptop, and adaptor plug if using an Apple laptop, if you want to show a PowerPoint presentation.

Philadelphia International Airport
West Chester University is located 25 miles from the Philadelphia International Airport, from where it can be reached in 40 minutes with an Uber, Lyft, or taxi.
Train from New York City or Philadelphia
West Chester University is located 6 miles from the Exton train station, served by Amtrak directly from New York Penn Station (book in advance) and SEPTA regional rail from Philadelphia's 30th Street Station. From the Exton train station it is a 10 minute Uber or Lyft ride to campus.
