Megan Schraedley, Ph.D.

Megan Schraedley is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Media. Dr. Schraedley teaches Organizational Communication, Sustainable Organizing (COM 398), Stigma & Identity (COM 508), and the Fundamentals of Public Speaking (SPK 208).

She previously served as faculty at California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo, CA. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from the University of Missouri and a BA in Communication from Boston College. Her research and teaching address the discursive causes of food (in)security, which can be transformed through collaborative policy making and community organizing practices.

She also brings qualitative research expertise in community resilience after working at the Disaster and Community Crisis Center (University of Missouri) and professional experience in nonprofit communication and grantwriting based on her work at Penn Medicine (University of Pennsylvania) and The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Communication Monographs, the Journal of Applied Communication Research, and Disasters, as well as an edited book, The Political Language of Food (Boerboom, 2015).
