Golden Rams Athletic Teams Close One of Their Most Successful Fall Seasons Ever

West Chester University athletic season 2018

The 2018 fall athletic season will go down as one of the most successful in the history of West Chester Athletics.

Several days after WCU’s Winter Commencement ceremonies, Golden Rams football head coach Bill Zwaan was named the Region 1 Coach of the Year in Division II by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Zwaan and the other regional winners will be honored at the American Football Coaches Awards on Jan. 8, during the 2019 AFCA Convention in San Antonio, Texas.

Zwaan and field hockey head coach Amy Cohen were both named ECAC Coaches of the Year for their respective sports as well as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Coaches of the Year.

Michael Benn, men’s soccer head coach, earned PSAC Coach of the Year and led his assistant coaches Jyler Noviello, Kyle Grim, and Michael Pryor to the United Soccer Coaches’ Division II men's soccer Atlantic Region coaching staff of the year honors.

Most recently, West Chester climbed to the No. 4 spot in the 2018-19 Learfield Directors' Cup Division II standings.

In addition, four out of a possible seven Golden Rams programs went to the NCAA Championship in the fall and West Chester claimed the top spot in the PSAC’s Dixon Trophy fall standings in November.

Student athletes’ accolades are too numerous to mention here, but take a look at all the Golden Rams teams’ fall seasons “by the numbers” here.
